Bodhi Artisans makes hand-tufted wool rugs in Agra, India, and sends them to homes around the world. We believe a rug should feel personal: shaped by skilled hands, made from natural wool, and chosen for the room it will live in.
Where it begins
The name Bodhi stands for awakening and the quiet feeling of coming home. That is what we want a rug to give a room: warmth underfoot, texture to look at, and a sense that the space is finished and yours.
Our studio is in Agra, a city with a long tradition of carpet making. Our rugs are made there, by skilled artisans, one at a time.
How a rug is made
Every Bodhi rug is hand-tufted. The pattern is drawn onto a cloth base, and the artisan pushes wool yarn through it by hand, building the design row by row. The loops are then shaped and finished so the surface feels even and soft.
Because a person guides every step, no two rugs are exactly alike. Small differences in colour, and a size variation of 2 to 3 inches, are part of what makes a rug handmade. We would rather tell you that now than have it surprise you later.
